I'm Karen Stoner, and one thing I hear from new clients is some version of this: "There are a thousand cruise options online — why would I need a person?" It's a fair question. Here's what actually happens when you plan a cruise with a specialist instead of clicking through a booking site alone.

Why not just book the cruise myself online?

Booking online works, but it leaves every decision to you: which line, which ship, which deck, which cabin, which week. The websites are built to show you options, not to know which option fits you.

A cruise specialist narrows a thousand choices down to two or three that fit your travel style, your budget, and the people coming with you. You still make the decision — but you make it with context instead of guesswork.

What does the planning actually involve?

The heart of the job is matching, and it happens in a short conversation, not a long questionnaire. A few things I ask about and handle for every guest:

You decide I handle
When you want to travel and for how long Which cruise lines sail that route well — and which to skip
Roughly what you want to spend What's included at each price point, line by line
Who's coming and what everyone enjoys Cabin categories, decks, and locations worth paying for (and ones to avoid)
The experience you're picturing Itinerary pacing, excursions, and the details that make the trip

You can browse common questions ahead of time on my Cruise FAQ, and I compare the major cruise lines by traveler type on my Ocean Cruises and River Cruises pages.

Does using a cruise specialist cost more?

For most cruises, no. Cruise lines pay the specialist's commission out of the fare, so you typically pay the same as booking direct — and often get extra value like onboard credit or a better cabin at the same price. For complex trips, a planning fee is explained up front before any work begins, so there are never surprises.

What happens after you book?

This is where a specialist earns their keep. Before sailing, I help you review your options for travel protection and make sure your documents, dining, and excursions are set. If a cruise line changes a port or a flight goes sideways, you call me — not an 800 number. And if the price drops after you book, I watch for that too.

Ready to plan a cruise the easy way?

You don't have to sift through a thousand tabs. As Karen Stoner, cruise specialist, I've been matching travelers with the right ships and itineraries since 2008, and I'd love to do the same for you. Book a free cruise call and tell me what you're dreaming about — I'll take it from there.
